Au cours de ses pérégrinations, il a croisé pas une, mais plusieurs « sociétés distinctes » (il consacre des chapitres particulièrement intéressants au Grand Nord, à Terre-Neuve et au Québec), et il a pu observer la place prépondérante que tient la ville à notre époque.Ce livre est une fabuleuse invitation au voyage, pas seulement à travers les paysages du Canada, mais surtout à travers les histoires qui s'y racontent. C'est également un vibrant hommage à ses auteurs, et, surtout, à la littérature même.
