Was ist Aufklärung und worin liegt ihre nicht nur europäische, sondern interkulturelle Bedeutung? Dieser Frage widmete sich ein chinesisch-deutsches Symposium in Peking anlässlich des Besuchs von Bildungsministerin Annette Schavan. Deutsche und chinesische Philosophen, Sinologen, Kulturwissenschaftler und Kulturvermittler traten in einen interkulturellen und interdisziplinären Dialog und debattierten über die Bedeutung der Aufklärung für den im Zeitalter der Globalisierung über die Grenzen der Kulturen hinweg geführten Diskurs über Moral, Freiheit und Macht. Der vorliegende Sammelband enthält die Vorträge des Symposiums, jeweils in deutscher und chinesischer Sprache. Auf diesem Weg soll eine Bestandsaufnahme der Aufklärung aus der Perspektive beider Philosophietraditionen geleistet werden.
