Die Vorstellung, Jesus habe nur zum Schein existiert und gelitten (Doketismus), ist im frühen Christentum eine relativ späte Erscheinung und ist erstmals für die Gegner des Ignatius von Antiochien (ca. 110 n.Chr.) bezeugt. Doketistische Christologien knüpfen an ältere Vorstellungen vom Auftreten Christi als Mensch unter Menschen (Fleisch, Inkarnation) an und entwickeln diese weiter. Sie greifen dabei zusätzlich auf vulgärphilosophische Gedanken zurück, vor allem aber auf mystisches Allgemeingut des Frühjudentums und des frühen Christentums, insbesondere auf Vorstellungen von der Leidensfreiheit von Engeln (Engeldoketismus). Deutungen neutestamentlicher und anderer frühchristlicher Texte, die irgendeine Form von Doketismus voraussetzen, werden in dieser Arbeit geprüft und revidiert.
