Para "innovar" en docencia no se requiere obligatoriamente de recursos materiales y tecnológicos que apoyen esta gestión. Todo comienza con una actitud que debe tener el docente para mejorar la calidad de la docencia que realiza, bajo el prisma de que todo es posible de mejorar, y estar dispuesto a evaluar la puesta en práctica y los resultados obtenidos en dicho proceso. Obviamente, en este proceso de innovación destacan los recursos de apoyo destinados por la institución a dicha labor. Este principio es normal que esté inserto y forme parte del proyecto o modelo educativo institucional (MEI), por lo cual, dicho compromiso debe ser adoptado por la misma institución e incluido en el presupuesto anual. La verdadera mejora de la acción docente llegará cuando los profesores investiguen sobre su propia práctica docente, y los resultados de esta tienen que ser sometidos a la crítica pública, pues la enseñanza no es una actividad privada y particular, sino social, pública, aunque algunos discrepen de esta propuesta.
