Nach dem Tod des Horst Käthner wurde in seinem Nachlass drei Notizbücher gefunden. Diese waren in Stenografieschrift geschrieben. Nur anhand der lesbaren Jahreszahlen war erkennbar, dass es sich um Aufzeichnungen aus der Zeit seiner Kriegsgefangenschaft handeln musste. Es vergingen viele Jahre, bis diese Aufzeichnungen übersetzt werden konnten. Noch im Februar 1945 wurde er als 19jähriger junger Mann zur Verteidigung der Festung Posen eingesetzt, dort verwundet und gefangen genommen. Horst Käthner schildert sehr genau, wie er in den Kriegsgefangenenlagern schuften, hungern und frieren musste. Erst drei Jahre später konnte er in die Heimat zurückkehren.Mögen seine persönlichen Schilderungen den Lesern die Sinnlosigkeit aller Kriege und die Grausamkeiten aller Kriegsbeteiligten lebhaft vor Augen führen.
