En 1989, Ari Sihvola publie sa thèse en finnois à l'université d'Helsinki sur le manuscrit du projet de constitution pour la Corse de Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1765). Le pré-examinateur a recommandé la publication d'une version française pour les universitaires et les lecteurs internationaux. Cependant, en raison de sa carrière, Ari n'a pas eu le temps de se concentrer sur la question. Ce n'est que maintenant, 32 années après la thèse, qu'il lui est possible d'assumer le travail de traduction. La thèse est une analyse approfondie et critique de la perception de Rousseau de la communauté naturelle en Corse et de l'impossibilité d'une telle communauté.Selon Ari: " Certes, beaucoup d'ouvrages et d'articles sur Rousseau ont été publiés ces dernières années. Je crois cependant que dans le domaine des études historiques, Rousseau est un philosophe aussi controversé aujourd'hui qu'il l'était dans les années 1980, lorsque j'ai écrit ce livre. En fait, la théorie de la politique de Rousseau a été vivement débattue de son vivant, et dans les 200 ans qui ont suivi sa mort. "
