Los autores elaboran una síntesis de la esencia del clasicismo cinematográfico en su configuración formal, narrativa, ideológica e industrial arquetípica a partir del análisis de una selección de cincuenta de sus títulos más representativos, mediante sus principales directores, géneros y enfoques ideológicos, al tiempo que se aspira a contrarrestar la extendida idea de homogeneidad del universo del cine clásico.
