Dieses Erbe ist keine Last, weil wir es lebendig halten. Wir sitzen auf den Schultern von Riesen und lesen in unserer Geschichte, ohne sie zu verklären. Wir kennen den Verlust und fühlen den Schmerz des Verschwindens, wenn wir auf den Fortschritt blicken. Wir sind Skeptiker, weil wir wissen, wie leicht es ist, etwas einzureißen und wie schwer, etwas aufzubauen. Wir achten die Wirklichkeit und leben aus dem, was immer gilt. Wir bauen keine Luftschlösser, wir bestellen unseren Garten. Mit einem Wort: Wir sind konservativ.
