Mitteleuropa wĂ€re natĂŒrlicherweise fast vollstĂ€ndig von Wald bedeckt. Heute ist etwa ein Drittel der FlĂ€che Deutschlands Wald. WĂ€lder spielen daher mit ihren Arten und LebensrĂ€umen eine besondere Rolle im Naturschutz â besonders auch in der Umsetzung der Fauna-Flora-Habitat-Richtlinie der EU (FFH) mit dem Ziel, ein kohĂ€rentes Netz europĂ€ischer Schutzgebiete mit dem Namen "Natura 2000" zu schaffen. Auf der anderen Seite wird nahezu die gesamte Waldfl Ă€che in Deutschland forstwirtschaftlich genutzt und unterliegt zudem noch weiteren, vielfĂ€ltigenNutzungsansprĂŒchen.Um die Ziele von Natura 2000 in Deutschland zu erreichen, mĂŒssen Wege gefunden werden, wie die einzelnen, nach FFH-Richtlinie zu schĂŒtzenden Lebensraumtypen und deren Arten im Wald â in der Regel unter Beibehaltung einer angepassten forstwirtschaftlichen Nutzung â erhaltenwerden können.Das Bundesamt fĂŒr Naturschutz (BfN) hat im internationalen Jahr der WĂ€lder im September 2011 in Kooperation mit der Alfred-Töpfer-Akademie fĂŒr Naturschutz (NNA) in Schneverdingen eine Experten-Tagung veranstaltet, um die besonderen Rahmenbedingungen, Herausforderungen und LösungsvorschlĂ€ge fĂŒr den Schutz und die FFHvertrĂ€glicheNutzung von Wald-Lebensraumtypen und die Erhaltung ihrergeschĂŒtzten Arten zu diskutieren.In diesem Tagungsband sind die BeitrĂ€ge der Tagung zu besonders schĂŒtzenswerten Wald-LebensrĂ€umen, ihren Strukturen, Habitaten und Arten, zu deren Erhaltungszustand, zu historischen Nutzungsformen und zu FFH-relevanten Aspekten des Klimawandels und Ăkosystemleistungendokumentiert. Darauf aufbauend werden Konfl ikte und Synergien zwischen Forstwirtschaft und Naturschutz, die neue, auf Natura 2000 abgestimmte Bundeswaldinventur, moderne Nutzungs- und Schutzkonzepte sowie das Monitoring von Wald-LebensrĂ€umen vorgestellt.Nicht zuletzt werden Handlungserfordernisse aufgezeigt, um die biologische Vielfalt unserer heimischen WĂ€lder zu erhalten und das europĂ€ische Schutzgebietsnetz Natura 2000 im Wald umzusetzen.
