About this book

1970 entstand im Bayerischen Wald der erste deutsche Nationalpark. Seitdem ist die Zahl der Nationalparks auf insgesamt 16 gestiegen. Schon diese Zahl lässt eine Erfolgsgeschichte vermuten. Auch wenn die meisten Nationalparks heute über eine hohe Akzeptanz verfügen, so starten diese Großschutzgebiete doch vielfach unter äußerst schwierigen Bedingungen.Ein interdisziplinäres Wissenschaftsteam analysierte die Ausweisungsverfahren der Nationalparks im schleswig-holsteinischen und niedersächsischen Wattenmeer, im niedersächsischen Teil des Harzes und in der Eifel sowie den gescheiterten Versuch im Siebengebirge. Jenseits der klassischen Konflikte mit den konkurrierenden Landnutzern stand dabei im Mittelpunkt, wie sich die Ausweisungsbehörden und die Politik um Akzeptanz bei der wirtschaftlich nicht unmittelbar betroffenen Bevölkerung in der Region bemühten. Probleme ergaben sich bei der Kommunikation und bezüglich der Erwartungshaltungen hinsichtlich Transparenz und Partizipation. Hierzu und zu den anderen Konfliktbereichen legt das Wissenschaftsteam Empfehlungen zu Akzeptanzsteigerung bei zukünftigen Ausweisungsverfahren vor.Einen besonderen Schub erfuhr der großflächige Gebietsschutz 1990 durch das Nationalprogramm der DDR. Ein gesonderter Beitrag würdigt dieses Programm anlässlich des 25. Jahrestages seiner Verabschiedung.
