Franz Lizst var talinn vera undrabarn í heimi tónlistar. Það er mikil gæfa að vera vel liðinn listamaður í eigin samtíma og þá gæfu lifði Franz við. Hann fæddist í Ungverjalandi árið 1811, faðir hans var tónlistarmaður og því hófst ferill hans snemma. Hann kom fyrst fram einungis 9 ára gamall. Franz fluttist til Parísar eftir dauða föður síns árið 1827, hann sá fyrir sér og móður sinni sem píanókennari, ár hans í París voru erfið en hann uppskar vel fyrir. Upp úr 1839 fór hann á tónleikaferðalög um Evrópu og vakti mikla aðdáun og hrifningu. -

Hann var undrabarn, likt og Mózart, og var látinn koma fram opinberlega 9 ára gamall (í Oedenburg) í fyrsta sinn.
