Meyerbeer starfaði víða um evrópu, þar má nefna Berlín, París og Italíu. Á tímabili dalaði vinsæld verka hans vegna ofsókna gegn gyðingum í evrópu.Serían fjallar um helstu tónsnillinga allt frá árunum 1525-1907. Hún er byggð á skrifum Theodórs Árnasonar sem var íslenskur tónlistarmaður. Fjallað er um líf tónskálda og verk þeirra. Bókin kom fyrst út árið 1966.

D RAMATISKA tónskáldið fræga, Giacomo Mayerbeer, var fæddur í Berlín, 5. september 1791. Hann var af Gyðingaættum og var faðir hans auðugur bankastjóri í Berlín, en ættaður frá Frankfurt, Herz Beer að nafni. Skírður hafði hann verið Jakob Meyer, í höfuðið á einhverjum frænda sínum, en þegar hann var „kominn í ganginn“, sem tónlistarmaður, sneri hann nafninu á ítölsku og kallaði sig Giacomo, en ættarnöfnunum slengdi hann saman, svo að úr varð Meyerbeer, og svo hefir hann verið nefndur síðan.
Hann var snemma hneigður til tónlistariðkana, og þegar hann var barn að aldri, var eftir því tekið og dáðst að, að hann gat fest sér í minni lög, sem hann heyrði leikin á hljóðfæri og leikið þau síðan á píanó með réttum hljómum.
Fyrsti kennari hans var snjall píanóleikari pólskur, Lauska að nafni, lærisveinn hins fræga Clementis. Hann kom því til leiðar, að Clementi hlustaði á drenginn, einhverju sinni er Clementi var staddur í Berlín. Leist Clementi svo vænlega á hæfileika ...
