Arguably the oldest retriever of them all - and, by the time these chapters were written, already the rarest.
The Curly Coated Retriever - A Complete Anthology of the Dog gathers breed chapters from the rare kennel literature of 1894 to 1935, among them Rawdon B. Lee's A History and Description of the Modern Dogs of Great Britain and Ireland (1894), Arthur Craven's Dogs of the World (1931) and Walter Hutchinson's Hutchinson's Dog Encyclopaedia (1935). Their subject first appeared on the show bench at Birmingham in 1860 and was one of only two retriever breeds in the Kennel Club's first stud book.
Points, that extraordinary crisp coat, temperament, water-work and the pedigrees of the celebrated dogs are all set out here, with the original photographs reproduced throughout.
