The Pointer - A Dog Anthology reprints the chapters devoted to the breed in Vero Shaw's The Illustrated Book of the Dog (issued in parts from 1879), W. D. Drury's British Dogs and Rawdon B. Lee's A History and Description of the Modern Dogs (Sporting Division) of Great Britain and Ireland. Lee was kennel editor of The Field, and his sporting volume carries Wardle's full-page drawings - reproduced here with the original photographs.
