A keepsake miscellany for the dog-minded, set among vintage photographs of the rough-coated hound of the Highlands.
The Vintage Dog Scrapbook collects the essays, anecdotes, poems and literary excerpts that dog people have written about dogs - the affection, the mischief, the long companionship - and prints them among photographs of the Deerhound drawn from rare breed volumes in our library. The writing is for dogs in general; the pictures are the breed's own.
Bred to course red deer over Highland ground and once reserved to men of rank, the Deerhound came close to disappearing after the clan system fell, and was gathered back from the surviving stock in the 1830s. Every photograph here is a picture of a rescued inheritance.
