The Vintage Dog Scrapbook gathers essays, anecdotes, poems and literary excerpts on the business of living with a dog, and prints them among photographs of the Flat Coated Retriever drawn from rare breed volumes in our library. The writing is for dogs at large; the pictures are the breed's own.

Fixed in England in the 1870s, and one of only two retriever breeds in the first Kennel Club stud book, the flat coat was the great shooting dog of the Edwardian estate before the Labrador took its place. It is having a quiet revival - and it photographs beautifully.

This edition features:
