The Smooth Fox Terrier - A Complete Anthology of the Dog collects breed chapters from the rare kennel literature of 1897 to 1935, among them H. W. Huntington's My Dog and I (1897), James Watson's The Dog Book (1906) and Walter Hutchinson's Hutchinson's Dog Encyclopaedia (1935). They describe a terrier bred to run with the foxhound packs and bolt its quarry from the earth, and then, within a generation, to dominate the show bench as thoroughly as it had the hunting field.
