The Vintage Dog Scrapbook collects the essays, anecdotes, poems and literary excerpts dog people have always written about dogs - the devotion, the absurdity, the quiet grief - and prints them among photographs of the Italian Greyhound drawn from rare breed volumes in our library. The writing belongs to dogs at large; the pictures belong to the breed.

Small sighthounds of this stamp were companions in the ancient Mediterranean and came into their own in Renaissance Italy, where princes kept them and painters could not leave them out. Anne of Denmark, Frederick the Great and Queen Victoria all owned one.
