Unter dem Schlagwort ›Kiezdeutsch‹ wurde in den letzten zehn Jahren intensiv über die Herkunft des deutschen Multiethnolekts diskutiert, der von Jugendlichen mit und ohne Migrationshintergrund genutzt wird. Handelt es sich bei den typischen Merkmalen um altersgebundene Stilisierungen? Oder avanciert die Jugendsprache zu einem neuen Dialekt des Deutschen? Einig war man sich bisher nur darin, dass der Multiethnolekt keine Fortsetzung der Lernermerkmale der Gastarbeitergeneration darstellt. Ein Vergleich von sieben Merkmalen in über 50 Studien der letzten 50 Jahre lässt diese Prämisse fraglich erscheinen. Der vorliegende Band liefert eine Erklärung der Variation in der Morphosyntax, die mit den Schritten der Koinéisierung im Einklang steht und den kollektiven Sprachwechsel ins Deutsche berücksichtigt: Über mehrere Generationen und Lebensabschnitte erfolgt eine Weitergabe, Abnahme und Funktionalisierung der Merkmale, wobei ethnische Grenzen zunehmend verschwimmen.
