Is The Bible Necessary?

About this book

Can the Bible Be Defended?

An intriguing attempt to eliminate the printing and distribution of the Bible anywhere in the world is the pivotal theme of this novel. The antagonists of the Holy Scripture in this book are varied, but they represent powerful and well-funded individuals and organizations. These adversaries' choice of weapon to destroy the Bible is a common one—the lawsuit.

The first two chapters provide background information before the in-depth jury trial begins. Then mystical events add to the heightened atmosphere surrounding these proceedings. What arguments will the prosecuting attorney use in his line of attack? How will the unorthodox defense attorney counter the onslaught of accusations? What will the witnesses, pro and con, have to say? Will the verdict be what the reader expects or not? How will the whole world, which is watching, react? What about the Bible? Can it speak for itself? Is the Bible and the gospel message really necessary in our science-based, technological world, where most people do their own thing?

Proverbs 21: 2 (NKJV) says, "Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the hearts." What are the consequences of a world without God's Word? Or without God? Hopefully, the answers to these questions and others will be provided to your satisfaction in this book. For even though it is a fiction novel, there are many references to nonfictional truths.

Chapter 17
Dr. Lamb: Apologetics
Everyone was in place at 10:00 a.m. The bailiff called for the jury to enter.
Judge El-Bib said, ā€œMr. Devas, please call your next witness.ā€
Mr. Devas replied, ā€œYes, Your Honor. I call Dr. Lamb to the stand.ā€
The bailiff swore in the witness.
Mr. Devas said to the witness, ā€œGood morning, Dr. Lamb. Please tell us a little about yourself, your education, and your profession. What can you tell us about the Bible? Or what qualifies you to be an expert witness today?ā€
Dr. Lamb replied, ā€œI am sixty-six years old. My wife died of cancer in 2015 at the young age of sixty, and we have no children. I have doctorate degrees in apologetics and geological science, and a master’s degree in theology, all from the University of South Western (USW). While going to school at USW, I learned that Jesus is our Creator, our God, and the Savior of all people. Since my graduation thirty-six years ago, I have worked for the University of South Western in the field of Bible authority, with a large part based on apologetics. This is where I learned at a young age that Jesus is our Creator, God, and also the Savior of all people.
ā€œIn my thirty-six years, I have reviewed various versions of the Bible. All the versions I consider to be perfect to a great extent because the archaeological digs have found not just evidence but, in many places, proof of the Bible’s inerrancy. I have been and am presently an associate in many archaeological digs. You, the jury, have heard similar information from other witnesses about how perfect the Bible is.ā€
Mr. Devas said, ā€œDr. Lamb, please describe in detail what apologetics is and how it affects the Bible and thus everyone in the world.ā€
ā€œApologetics is a branch of theology devoted to the defense of the divine origin and authority of Christianity and the study of God’s relation to the world. Apologetics covers a wide range of subjects, including the existence of God, evidence for the resurrection, evil, cults, science, etc. Apologetics is the religious discipline of defending religious doctrines through systematic argumentation and discourse. Early Christian writers who defended their beliefs against critics and recommended their faith to outsiders were called Christian apologists.
ā€œWe live in an age of rapid change and movement. Faddish trends appear one day and promptly vanish into obsolescence the next. Today, many discussions about postmodernism would likely fall into this category. Flooding the discussion with books and articles either decrying or defending postmodernism, many authors have set their sights on continuing this furious battle of tug-of-war. Meanwhile, large segments of the younger generation are growing apathetic toward the discussion. Nevertheless, the prevalence of postmodern thought accounts for a shift in the way people see truth. Although this shift has affected many areas of life in our culture, it has had a potent effect on believers in Christ particularly, with apathy toward learning and practicing apologetics among young believers.
ā€œLadies and gentlemen of the jury, the first witness, Dr. Lios, spoke to you in gr...
