About this book
Radical Revival as Adaptation examines the radical revisioning of texts as a form of adaptation for the stage. Radical revisioning (which can include revivals of existing plays and stage dramatizations of other genres) is a prominent artistic strategy, and is used in this book as a particularly potent pathway of exploration in performance. The book uses case studies stemming from the aspiration of theatre directors to cannibalize the literary and theatrical canon (eg, Thomas Ostermeier) to the work of theatre companies using pre-existing source material with an intent to interlace it with devising (eg, the work of Punchdrunk, ComplicitƩ and Frantic Assembly).
