ZunĂ€chst werden in einem Überblick Entstehung und Wachsen der Kolonialreiche bis zu ihrem Ende beleuchtet, wobei der Bogen von den HintergrĂŒnden fĂŒr ihre BegrĂŒndung im spĂ€ten Mittelalter bis zur Dekolonisation im 20. Jahrhundert gespannt wird, wenngleich der Schwerpunkt auf der FrĂŒhen Neuzeit liegt.
