Imperialismo pagano venne pubblicato verso la metĂ  del 1928 a ridosso, dunque, dei Patti Lateranensi dell'11 febbraio 1929 fra la Chiesa cattolica e lo Stato italiano. Il pamplhet di Julius Evola, che riprendeva, fondendoli, alcuni articoli apparsi nel 1926-27, voleva essere proprio una messa in guardia per il fascismo contro questo avvenimento che, a giudizio dell'autore, avrebbe tarpato le ali alle potenzialitĂ  imperiali del Regime mussoliniano. Non era una personalissima alzata di scudi, ma la conclusione di un cammino che riassumeva le posizioni di un mondo esoterico e/o pagano quanto mai composito che si riuniva anche sotto le iniziative del Gruppo di Ur e che, con la Conciliazione, vedeva spegnersi ogni aspettativa della possibile affermazione nell'Italia fascista di spiritualitĂ  diverse dall'egemonia cristiano-cattolica.
