»Wir wissen nicht, was im Haftkrankenhaus des Stasi-Untersuchungsgefängnisses inBerlin-Hohenschönhausen wirklich geschah«, resümierte der Vorsitzende Richter am Berliner Landgericht in einem Verfahren gegen Horst Böttger, das im September 2000 seinen Abschluss fand. Angeklagt wegen des Vorwurfs der Körperverletzung an Häftlingen, wurde der einstige forensische Psychiater der MfS-Haftanstalt aus Mangel an Beweisen freigesprochen. Nun legt der Mediziner seine Autobiografie vor und gewährt damit einen tiefen Einblick in seinen Werdegang und speziell die Zeit, in der er an verantwortungsvoller Stelle für das Ministerium für Staatssicherheit tätig war.Als Facharzt für Psychiatrie und Neurologie arbeitete Horst Böttger von 1978 bis 1988 im Haftkrankenhaus des MfS. Zu seinen Aufgaben gehörte neben der medizinischen Betreuung der Inhaftierten auch die Erstellung von Täterhypothesen und Gutachten überStraftäterinnen und Straftäter. Besonderes Augenmerk legt er in seinen Lebenserinnerungen auf DDR-Flüchtlinge, die ihm im Gefängnis als Patientinnen und Patienten gegenübersaßen. Eindrücklich beschreibt er, wie sich durch Gespräche mit ihnen seine Haltung zum Leben in der DDR und sein politisches Wertgefüge veränderten. Und erantwortet auf die Vorwürfe, den Insassen der Anstalt gegenüber den Eid des Hippokrates gebrochen zu haben. Sein Lebensreport ist der schillernde Erfahrungsbericht eines Insiders, der sein Handeln hinterfragt und sich der Frage stellt, ob er einem fatalen Irrtum aufgesessen ist.
