Luis Oyarzún (1920-1972), fue un apasionado de la Tierra, un poeta y pensador «al aire libre». Quienes lo conocieron y leyeron, dan fe de su sentimiento fraternal con el cosmos, de vivir como una criatura entre criaturas, siempre prójimo y nunca amo absoluto de la realidad y sus seres. Publicado póstumamente en 1973, Defensa de la Tierra es fruto de esa pasión de ver y de ser «con el mundo» y se constituyó, desde su aparición, en un lúcido alegato y adelantado manifiesto contra el antropocentrismo y su acción depredadora. En el centenario del nacimiento de su autor, Ediciones Universidad Austral de Chile ha querido rendir tributo a una voz y a una obra cuya vigencia —y urgencia— es permanente.
