Este libro es una contribución a los estudios de historia de la educación en México, ya que aporta nuevos elementos al esfuerzo colectivo para comprender los procesos de federalización de la enseñanza como componente asencial de la construcción del Estado nacional posrevolucionario. Cuando diversas investigaciones han documentado un largo periodo de resistencias sociales a la escolarización y han encontrado en el cardenismo (1934-1940) una suerte de barrera temporal, pocas veces traspada, este trabajo analiza el ciclo de apropiación sociocultural de las escuelas posterior a las resistencias primigenias, desde una parcela temática abordada por los historiadores de la educación de manera tangencial.
