Este estudio busca indagar el papel que juega la actividad turística en la cotidianeidad de los inmigrantes yucatecos radicados en Cancún, Quintana Roo, sobre todo en la segunda generación de migrantes yucatecos, así como la relación que juega con la vida habitual de la ciudad y el conjunto de prácticas, costumbres y tradiciones al interior de sus familias. Se centra en cómo los hijos de inmigrantes yucatecos buscan incorporarse a la actividad turística a partir de su formación universitaria, y con ello observar las diversas concepciones que construyen sobre el turismo y sus exigencias, aquellas que "moldean" sus cuerpos, sus sonrisas y su trabajo para el turista. De ahí que se haga referencia a estos jóvenes como los "nuevos braceros del ocio".
