El interés de esta obra reside en el reconocimiento hacia los grupos indígenas sobre la importancia que han tenido en la historia de nuestras sociedades, así como en la preocupación por recuperar la historia de territorios considerados periféricos a los grandes centros de poder. En este trabajo se ofrecen resultados de investigaciones que hacen hincapié en las relaciones entre sociedades indígenas y no indígenas desarrolladas en zonas de frontera —como el septentrión novohispano y mexicano—. Además, se incluye un estudio referido a la frontera bonaerense de Argentina; la intención es mostrar las similitudes con los espacios lejanos que comparten la característica de ser fronterizos.
