El proceso de desmantelamiento de la actividad pesquera inició en la década de los años ochenta con las políticas de ajuste estructural que llevaron a la subordinación del sector cooperativo a la industria privada, la transferencia de las facetas de producción y distribución del producto a inversionistas privados, así como a la reducción directa del gobierno en la producción y financiamiento de la pesca. Pesquerías globalizadas presenta un panorama de las transformaciones sociales y ecológicas en comunidades pesqueras del Alto Golfo de California.
