In den Jahren 1732 bis 1740 besuchte der Schüler Immanuel Kant das Königsberger Collegium Fridericianum, an dem Jahrzehnte später der junge Herder für einige Zeit als Lehrer tätig werden sollte. 1741 veröffentlichte Christian Schiffert einen Bericht über diese Schule, der hier neu ediert wird. Er stellt ein bedeutendes zeitgenössisches Dokument dar, über das wir einen Einblick in die schulische Erziehung des Königsberger Philosophen erhalten. Zugleich vermittelt der Bericht einen Eindruck vom Königsberg der ersten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts, mit seinen Auseinandersetzungen zwischen lutherischer Orthodoxie und Pietismus, zwischen Wolffianismus und Aristotelismus.
