El testimoni de Jesús Arnal permet de dibuixar un perfil de Durruti més humà i més real que no pas el que altres textos sobre la guerra n'havien establert. Arnal, que no va passar d'un oficinista de la Columna Durruti, però que a pesar de ser capellà va arribar a un grau d'intimitat i d'amistat amb el líder anarquista, parla amb naturalitat, frescor i intel*ligència, d'episodis de la guerra i de la Columna Durruti sense ressentiment, actitud de revenja ni confrontació ideològica. Simplement explica les coses tal com les va veure un home bo que va haver d'adaptar-se a la realitat històrica.
