Si bien durante los últimos años diferentes disciplinas han "interrogado" al mundo del libro, los procesos editoriales y la lectura a partir de herramientas conceptuales y metodológicas particulares, es justo afirmar que los propios estudios del libro y la edición son ya en sí mismos un campo disciplinar autónomo, cuya madurez, independencia y especificidad pueden aportar enfoques y métodos renovados a otras disciplinas y esferas del conocimiento. Claro ejemplo de ello es la publicación de Un hilo de tinta recorre América Latina, un exhaustivo trabajo que es el resultado de un proceso colectivo que –estamos convencidos– será de gran utilidad para quienes deseen tener un panorama general de la historia del libro y la edición en América Latina.
