Questo libro racconta la storia di tre luoghi perduti, tre episodi della violenza che si abbatté sulle popolazioni di fede protestante nel cuore del continente: la strage di Valtellina (1620), l'assedio di La Rochelle (1627-'28) e quello di Magdeburgo (1630-'31), dove persero la vita ventimila uomini in poche ore.
