Già a distanza di pochi giorni, il mito aveva preso il posto dell'evento, contribuendo a definire fino al Novecento un concetto di patria italiana, fino ad allora ancora incerto.Amplificata dalla letteratura, dal cinema e persino dai fumetti (memorabile la Disfida iia Pdperettda per gli albi di «Topolino»), la Disfda è un inestimabile patrimonio della memoria collettiva.
