C'est un programme original par le caractère pluri-organismes de sa direction et de son financement, et par la diversité des disciplines impliquées. Ce document présente une synthèse des résultats acquis sur la période 1999-2002, soit sur des zones géographiques identifiées (chantiers Manche orientale, baie de Seine, baie du Mont-Saint-Michel, golfe de Gascogne, golfe du Lion, lagunes méditerranéennes, Nouvelle-Calédonie, Guyane), soit sur des thématiques de recherche (cycles biogéochimiques, dynamique des populations, efflorescences algales toxiques, facteurs hydroclimatiques et variabilité, micro-organismes, gouvernance environnementale, dynamique sédimentaire).
