El libro que presentamos contiene toda la obra poética y la prosa de María Monvel (Iquique 1897-Santiago 1936), relevante escritora chilena injustamente desconocida, que merece estar disponible para el amplio público lector. En este volumen se recopila en forma cronológica toda su obra poética y en prosa, constituida por creaciones que van desde el año 1918 a 1937, como también se incluyen sus cartas a Julio Munizaga Ossandón a partir de 1914, y su carta a Miguel de Unamuno. Dentro de su producción literaria se incluyen los siete libros de poesía (dentro de los cuales está la famosa antología Poetisas de América (1927), las narraciones en prosa y las crónicas periodísticas, obra que en su totalidad nunca ha sido reeditada. María Monvel, a su manera, logró construirse desde muy joven un espacio en el mundo literario: ingresó a temprana edad al Club de Señoras; se casó con Armando Donoso con quien compartió escritura y viajes; escribió no solo cuentos y poesía, sino que también entrevistó a variados personajes de la vida pública tanto en Chile como en España, logrando una libertad y una autonomía a través de su escritura que le permite hablar con propiedad desde sí misma acerca de las mujeres y el mundo.
