Leo vive con sua madre Anna. Il fratello Raffaele è ricoverato in ospedale. Il padre è assente.All'interno della Comunità ebraica di Merano si capisce subito che restare in Alto Adige non è più possibile. Così anche la madre di Leopold organizza una repentina fuga per mettere in salvo la sua famiglia.
