Die 1960er-Jahre sind das ereignisreichste Jahrzehnt der Geschichte. Die Generation, die noch Krieg und Entbehrung erlebt hat, und die Nachkriegsgeneration, die in einer Zeit ungebrochenen Wachstums aufwächst, prallen wie zwei tektonische Platten aufeinander. Zunächst ist es die Musik, die den Zeitgeist prägt, dann Sex und Drogen, dann zunehmende Empörung: über die Ausbeutung der Dritten Welt, einen wahnwitzigen Krieg in Vietnam und unhaltbare Zustände an den Universitäten. Erstmals in der Geschichte entsteht eine internationale Jugendbewegung, die sich zunehmend politisiert. 1968 bricht der Vulkan aus und entlädt sich in Strassenschlachten über den ganzen Globus. Es folgen Katzenjammer, Ausnüchterung und die Zersplitterung der Bewegung. 50 Jahre später ist die Welt eine andere. Man fragt sich, ob die Forderung aus dem Pariser Mai 68 nicht wieder notwendig ist: « Die Phantasie an die Macht!»
