Escrito en 1843 en Kreuznach, se trata de su primer intento de obra científica, a la que designará más tarde como el «punto de partida» de su crítica de la economía política. Sus cuarenta pliegos analizan no solo la construcción del Estado que Hegel presenta en su obra, sino también su método especulativo. Como complemento al manuscrito de Kreuznach, se ofrece también una nueva traducción del conocido artículo «Contribución a la crítica de la filosofía del derecho de Hegel. Introducción», publicado por Marx a comienzos de 1844 en losAnales franco-alemanes. En ambos casos, la traducción se basa en la edición crítica de la obra de Marx (MEGA2) e incluye un aparato crítico.
