Su meta principal es la descripción de la morfología y el léxico del español a través del estudio de los esquemas de formación de palabras más utilizados hoy en día. También es una forma amena de retratar el habla que los mexicanos ponemos en práctica todos los días. Su objetivo es, por un lado, ofrecer un panorama del léxico hispánico, particularmente del usado en México y, por otro lado, divulgar los hechos de la lengua de una manera accesible a cualquier lector, sin perder el rigor del análisis académico que ha permitido desentrañar la estructura de las palabras que se presentan. Gracias a esta última característica, puede ser usado también como material de apoyo para clases de lexicología y morfología.
