A perspectiva da escolarização de crianças e jovens com deficiências, altas habilidades/superdotação e transtornos globais do desenvolvimento nas classes comuns das escolas regulares brasileira é hoje um imperativo moral e político. Entretanto, matricular não basta: é preciso acolher e responder às diferenças dessas crianças e jovens. E como fazer isso? Este é o tema deste trabalho, que propõe estabelecer uma parceria efetiva entre Educação Especial e Regular para viabilizar a escolarização bem-sucedida de estudantes da população-alvo da Educação Especial nas classes comuns das escolas regulares. Esta obra visa socializar o conhecimento que vem sendo produzido nos últimos dez anos pelo Grupo de Pesquisa sobre Formação de Recursos Humanos em Educação Especial (GP-FOREESP) da Universidade Federal de São Carlos acerca do modelo de prestação de serviços de apoio à inclusão escolar chamado de ensino colaborativo ou coensino.
