Anlass ist die 2021 verabschiedete zahnärztliche Approbationsordnung, inhaltliche Grundlage der "Nationale Kompetenzbasierte Lernzielkatalog Zahnmedizin" (NKLZ).Teil I des Kompendiums widmet sich dem Teilgebiet Geschichte, Teil II der Ethik unter Berücksichtigung klinisch-ethischer Fallberichte. In beiden Teilen liegt der Schwerpunkt der Ausführungen auf der Zahnheilkunde und ihren Fachvertretern. Daneben werden zahlreiche Bezüge zur Medizin und zur Ärzteschaft hergestellt, so wie es die neue zahnärztliche Approbationsordnung für dieses Lehrfach vorsieht.
