A investigação do material numa perspectiva histórica permitiu à autora revisar a prática editorial de Lobato e definir com mais precisão quando ela foi e não foi revolucionária, reavaliando criticamente os estudos que habitualmente retratam o trabalho editorial de Lobato como absolutamente inovador. Além disso, Cilza Bignotto demonstra como a atividade editorial lobatiana permitiu a construção de redes extensas de sociabilidade entre vários intelectuais, o que contribuiu sobremaneira para a construção de sua própria figura de autor, além de sua inserção e consolidação no campo literário paulista e nacional da época.
