About this book
How can literary archives adapt to the challenges of the future?Literary archives are per se international because their subject is international. Literature does not end at the borders of its country of origin or its language. Hence, literary archives hold material that is not limited to a country or a language, although one country and language is usually dominant. It might even be the case that an archive has the official task of preserving the literary heritage of a specific territory and is funded for this purpose. How can we conceptualize literary archives in their regional and global frameworks and develop them further? To what extent does digitization foster international cooperation within and beyond the archives and how can we make it more fruitful? How can archives meet the interests of the literary public and of researchers?

- Sandra Richter: The Archive Paradox or: How to Archive Disruptive Energy. Nine Hypotheses About Literature in a Literatur Archive
- I | National or global? Have we ever collected national material and what role does the notion of ›national‹ play in our archives, including in relation to our funders, our statutory duties? Do we have to build up a global literature archive, at least in virtual form, in order to meet the need of literature and its public?
- II | What to collect? To what extent is the concept of literature changing and relevant to the criteria according to which we collect? Do we have to take other artistic material into account insofar as it works with words, e.g. film, social media, and games?
- III | How to develop international exchange? The literary market has become increasingly globalized. How do we react to this development and promote international exchange?
- IV | How to exhibit literature? How can we exhibit literature in a way that it is accessible to both a global and a local audience?
