Wenn Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte keine anerkannten oder fraglichen Leistungen der gesetzlichen Krankenkassen sind, prüft der Medizinische Dienst, ob deren Anwendung im Einzelfall dennoch aus medizinisch-wissenschaftlicher Sicht empfohlen werden kann. Zur Bewertung müssen die Gutachter die gesetzlichen Rahmenbedingungen, die durch den Gemeinsamen Bundesausschuss (G-BA) getroffenen Regelungen sowie die medizinischen Voraussetzungen und aktuelle wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse kennen. Das Buch zeigt die Zusammenhänge zwischen Arzneimittelrecht, Medizinprodukterecht und Sozialgesetzbuch V und der BSG-Rechtsprechung zur Leistungspflicht der gesetzlichen Krankenversicherung bei der Verordnung von Arzneimitteln innerhalb und außerhalb ihrer Zulassung bzw. beim Bezug aus dem Ausland oder dem Einsatz von Diagnostik- bzw. Therapiemethoden auf.
