Durante la sua lunga attivitĂ di insegnamento presso le UniversitĂ di Napoli e di Pisa, Simone Porzio (1496-1554) si confrontò costantemente con i testi di Aristotele e con i suoi commentatori. La sua opera piĂš matura, ma anche la piĂš controversa, è sicuramente il trattato De mente humana, pubblicato a Firenze nel 1551, in edizione latina, che lo pose al centro di critiche e dibattiti teorici sui grandi temi dell'immortalitĂ dell'anima. Il volume presenta la prima edizione del volgarizzamento De mente umana, secondo l'unico testimone manoscritto pervenutoci (Bibliothèque nationale de France, Ms. Ital. 441), e reca â insieme alla Quaestio sull'immortalitĂ dell'anima (Yale, Ms. Mellon 32.3) â, la Prefazione al Credo cristiano (Napoli, Ms. Branc. VD17) e utili contributi alla ricostruzione del naturalismo aristotelico e della dottrina psicologica porziana. L'edizione, condotta su testimoni superstiti, è corredata da uno studio sulla tradizione delle opere e dei codici porziani, e da un puntuale apparto delle fonti.
