Dante Alighieri è un genio poetico universalmente conosciuto e apprezzato. La sua forza suggestiva è enorme. Non a caso la Divina Commedia è stata tradotta in quasi tutte le lingue del mondo. Ma la lettura della Commedia non è facile. E neppure la recitazione. Il linguaggio è complesso, ricco di intrecci, metafore e allegorie. Occorre una solida cultura storico-filosofica per entrare nei suoi meccanismi. Né ha senso isolare i momenti "veramente poetici" dal resto che non può essere valutato come una mera architettura artificiosa. Questo libro si propone di realizzare una impresa piuttosto difficile: mettere tutti in condizione di avvicinarsi alla lettura di Dante, cogliendone per intero il significato e la grandezza. I versi danteschi della Divina Commedia sono stati trasformati in una prosa attuale, come in un moderno romanzo, cercando il più possibile di rimanere aderenti al significato del testo originale e scegliendo, volta per volta, le più convincenti tra le varie interpretazioni offerte dalla secolare critica dantesca. In questo modo non si intende sostituire il testo originale con la lettura di un surrogato, inevitabilmente modesto, ma fornire il lettore di una migliore capacità critica e stimolare in lui un più vivo desiderio di lettura diretta del capolavoro del Sommo Poeta.
