O câncer de mama (CM) é uma doença que apresenta alta incidência, especialmente entre as mulheres, sendo considerado uma das maiores causas de mortalidade e morbidade no mundo. Diversas características podem auxiliar no melhor prognóstico da neoplasia maligna, como fatores socioeconômicos, clínicos, farmacológicos e culturais. No tocante aos fatores farmacológicos, efeitos adversos ainda são apresentados, como alterações na conectividade funcional, no fator neurotrófico derivado do cérebro e dores neuropáticas. Com base na experiência e no conhecimento teórico de diversos pesquisadores da área, impulsionados por um projeto de extensão promovido pelo Laboratório de Percepção, Neurociências e Comportamento (LPNeC – UFPB), intitulado Projeto Violeta: Avaliação da Cognição Social e Percepção Visual em Mulheres com Câncer de Mama, este livro buscou sintetizar os principais aspectos do CM. O livro está dividido em sete capítulos, que engloba desde a etiologia do CM até as suas características epidemiológicas, clínicas e farmacológicas. O principal intuito do livro é fornecer ao leitor uma visão geral do CM, para que este possa obter conhecimento acerca das principais evidências científicas existentes sobre a doença.
