Los elementos decorativos de un bus urbano, los carteles promocionales, los Graffiti, los esténcil, la publicidad o devociones tan importantes y propagadas como la del Divino Niño en el barrio 20 de Julio, o de la Virgen del Carmen, entre otros, son objetos y lugares de la vida cotidiana y, por su propia cotidianidad, se hace difícil entenderlos como parte del paisaje urbano, y sus significados sociales no siempre son "evidentes".Es desde este punto que el Museo de Bogotá se convierte en un lugar de encuentro de diversas visiones de la ciudad, y al encarar la gráfica y la iconografía popular, "se plantea como objetivo poner en evidencia la complejidad de los intercambios culturales que se presentan en el medio urbano". Este catálogo es una muestra del trabajo investigativo que se viene realizando desde el 2000 y que concluyó con la exposición que llevó su mismo nombre. Los textos expuestos "intentan plantear algunas preguntas y propiciar un reconocimiento de los bogotanos frente a expresiones y espacios comunes que están en la escena urbana de Bogotá".Sin embargo, queda un gran trabajo por hacer para enmarcar estas representaciones de cultura popular en un contexto histórico y sociocultural y, para pensarlas más allá de elementos kitsch, pensarlas como patrimonio de la ciudad.
