Al plantear una lectura alternativa de los actores locales como agentes del cambio social territorial, las autoras proponen un marco conceptual y metodológico basado en los principios de conexión, horizontalidad, transparencia y proyección flexible para conocer y comprender las problemáticas sociojurídicas del territorio colombiano y promover el fortalecimiento del Estado de derecho. Mediante el concepto de lo que en biología se conoce como "rizoma" y es usado metafóricamente por los filósofos Gilles Deleuze y Feliz Guattari, se describe el funcionamiento de redes de trabajo, investigación y producción de conocimiento como relaciones que no se dan de manera jerárquica, sino horizontal, donde cada elemento de la red o del rizoma puede incidir en otro sin que haya prevalencia de uno sobre otro.
